What the builder can (and can’t) do

The builder is deliberately not a code editor. It composes your site from professionally designed building blocks, which is why every site it makes works on day one. Here is exactly where its edges are, so you never have to guess whether to ask the chat, open the CMS, or contact us.

  1. What generation produces

    When you describe your business, the AI builds a real multi-page website on theDavid CMS: pages composed from a catalog of section designs, a coherent color palette and font pairing, and hosting on your own subdomain (or your own domain, on plans that include one). It is not a static mockup — behind every site is a full CMS admin, and optional modules add working business systems: Online Store, Restaurant, Bookings & Events, Memberships, and CRM & Donations.

  2. What the AI chat can change

    The chat editor can rewrite any text on your site — hero headlines, section content, even the SEO titles and descriptions search engines see. It can add, remove, and reorder sections from the design catalog, swap a section to a different look, and restyle the whole site: color palette, font pairing, corner roundness, button style, spacing, shadows, backgrounds, and image treatment. It can also switch your header and footer between their available styles and make the header stick to the top as visitors scroll.

  3. What the chat can’t do — and where to go instead

    The chat cannot write custom code, scripts, or layouts outside the section catalog, and it cannot use image URLs pasted from the web — images come from your media library. It also does not manage the structural or business side of your site: adding and removing whole pages, and day-to-day data like products, menus, bookings, and members, all live in theDavid admin, one click away. When a request is out of its reach, the chat says so plainly instead of faking a change — and a declined request never costs a credit.

  4. Platform chrome vs. your sections

    Your header and footer are platform chrome: you choose their style and behavior, but their structure is fixed so that navigation, the mobile menu, and accessibility always work — on every site, on every device. Everything between them is yours to compose freely from the section catalog. That split is why a Digital Potter site never has a broken menu or an unreachable page.

    Code export — taking your site’s full source code with you — is on the roadmap, from $490. We keep this list short on purpose: if a capability isn’t listed on this page or in these docs, the builder doesn’t do it yet.

Can I add custom code to my site?

Not today — sites are composed from the section catalog by design, which is what keeps them fast, secure, and working on every device. Code export is coming for owners who want to take the source and extend it themselves.

Can the AI chat edit my products, menu, or bookings?

No — business data lives in theDavid admin, where you get real management screens for it: inventory, orders, availability, members. The chat handles how your site looks and reads.

Why did the chat refuse my request?

Because it was outside what the chat can safely change. It tells you honestly instead of pretending, nothing is applied, and no credit is spent. Check this page for where that kind of change lives — usually theDavid admin.
